Explore the evidence.

This app describes recorded attacking actions in the 2017/18 English Premier League: 20 teams, 380 matches and 643,150 events.

Choose a sample

  1. Choose a team. Whole team and passes are selected by default.
  2. Keep Whole season for season totals, or select a match. Venue, opponent and half narrow the recorded actions.
  3. Click a played player to focus the map and statistics. Match substitutes are labelled Sub 1 onwards; unused substitutes have no participant button.
  4. Click a pitch marker or event row to inspect the original evidence. Keyboard Tab and Enter work too. Open this match retains the event context.

Read the numbers

A completed pass has the source accurate tag without the inaccurate tag. A progressive pass is a completed spatial pass gaining at least 10 metres towards the opponent’s goal. Final-third and box entries count completed passes that cross into those areas; they are action counts, not possessions or inferred connections.

Coordinates are normalized to 0–100; distance assumes a 105 × 68 metre pitch. The pitch shows at most 300 representative spatial actions plus an inspected event. Totals use all selected events; the evidence list has 20 rows per page.

Player per-90 values divide matched recorded actions by checked nominal playing minutes. Nominal minutes are capped at 90 and exclude added time. Stoppage-time actions remain in counts. Four player/team season records have zero nominal minutes, so their rates stay withheld. Half and score-state rates are not validated. A small-sample label is not a ranking.

Know the limitations

48,031 events have an unknown source actor. Team totals retain them; they cannot be assigned to a player. Score and goal-event conflicts remain visible. Corrected substitution/card interpretations are disclosed while original observations remain inspectable. Confirmed unused-substitute bookings have no played appearance or minutes.

These metrics do not measure overall player quality, causal effects, expected goals, expected threat or off-ball tactics. There is no live data, tracking data or inferred pass-recipient network.
